Report of Sale:

Most people do not understand that they are responsible for filing a report of sale with the State DOL within 5 days of the date of the sale (or the trade in) of that vehicle.

If you have used your vehicle for a trade in at a dealership, you are still responsible for filing the report of ‘sale’! This is the ONLY way that you are relieved of civil or criminal liability for the operation of that vehicle.

If you don’t think it is that important, let me tell you a little tale from an acquaintance of mine who sold their vehicle to a private party…

The buyer promptly took the vehicle and wrapped it around a telephone pole and left the vehicle ‘abandoned’.

The seller in this case received not only a tow bill but storage fees and a bill for the telephone pole!!

Protect yourself and do not trust the dealer to do it for you, if it doesn’t generate income it is likely to not be a priority!

It is a simple procedure that just takes a few moments on line to do. And, there is no charge for filing on line.

Make sure that you print out a receipt for yourself!!
